Official CAT 2016 Mock Test

The CAT 2016 Mock Test has been put up on the website!!

Students can attempt the test to get themselves used to the user interface, which will be similar to the actual test day. It will also help the students to get used to the pressure of answering questions within the allotted sectional time.

Steps to access the mock:

  1. Go to the official website: (iimcat.ac.in/)
  2. Click on the ‘CAT 2016 Mock Test’
  3. This will take you to another tab where you will be required to enter the username and password for the CAT log in page.
  4. The Mock Test will begin once you finish the above step.

The mock test gives the break-up of the questions:

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension: 34

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning: 32

Quantitative Ability: 34

The total questions come up to 100.

And following are some observations from the mock test:

  • The order of the sections are as follows:

I. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

II. Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning

III. Quantitative Ability

  • Verbal Ability did not contain questions on grammar and critical reasoning. Reading Comprehension contained MCQs. No non-MCQs here. There were 10 questions on Non-MCQs in English usage and para-completion
  • Number of questions on DI outweighed the questions on LR with around 24 questions in DI and 8 questions in LR. 8 questions out of the total 32, were non-MCQs.
  • Quant contained questions from Numbers, Geometry, Algebra, Arithmetic, which are usually the topics that are in majority. Number of Non-MCQs were around 10.

One thing to be noted is this point stated below, which is given in the instructions before the mock test begins:

Note: Number of Questions in each section is only for the mock test. The actual number of questions, including the number of MCQ and Non-MCQ type questions, could be different.

Therefore, whatever you observe in the mock may or may not be the same during the actual exam. Hence, do not set/change your preparation strategy on the basis of this Mock Test. Assuming anything, based on the mock is to be avoided at all costs. The best strategy would be to find something in the mock that belongs to your weak area, and focus on strengthening it.

Increase your efforts for CAT 2016 and give it your best. All the best!!
