Not much introduction is required here, the Common Admission Test (CAT) is the most well known MBA entrance test out of them all. The duration of the exam is 180 minutes (60 minutes for each of the three sections) for a total of 100 marks.
IIMs conduct CAT on a rotational basis each year, which means each main IIM will be setting the exam for one year. For 2018, CAT was set by IIM-Calcutta, and for 2019 the exam was set by IIM-Kozhikode; as for CAT 2020, IIM Indore is expected to conduct this year. Usually, CAT undergoes significant changes by adding new components every year which is notified on CAT’s official website from time to time.
The CAT application process starts from the second week of August. Around two lakh applicants apply and show up for the Computer-based test each year. Unlike GMAT or other exams, CAT scorecard is valid only for one year. Around 4,000 seats are up for grabs for the 20 IIMs. The application conveys to you the nitty-gritty data on CAT with respect to the warning, imperative dates, qualification criteria, enlistment process, application shape, exam design, result, cutoff, and so forth.
Pro tip: CAT releases a mock test on their website a month or two before the final exam, so don’t forget to attempt that!
