RRB ALP Exam – Railway Recruitment Board Assistant Loco Pilots Exam


The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts the RRB ALP exam every year to recruit Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) across the country. This year, there was opening for 64,371 posts of Assistant Loco Pilot and Technicians across India. Around 36 lakh candidates have appeared for the 1st Stage CBT this year, which was conducted in August 2018. RRB released the RRB ALP Result for the 1st Stage CBT on 2nd November 2018 but due to some discrepancies in the answer key, the result stood cancelled. The revised result for the same was declared on 20th December 2018. Candidates can download their result from the official website of RRB or the official website of the RRB Region they applied for.

RRB ALP will be conducted in all states of India. Recruitment will be based on the marks scored and rank acquired by candidate. A total of 120 objective type questions shall be asked in the test and the duration granted to resolve the questions would be 90 minutes (1 hour and 30 minutes).The paper will have 6 parts in total, that is Arithmetic for 30 marks, Reasoning for 10 marks, General Awareness for 25 marks, General Science for 30 marks, General Intelligence for 5 marks, and Technical Ability for 30 marks. The eligibility criteria for RRB ALP is:
Nationality:The candidate who aspires to apply for various posts of Indian Railways must fulfill the following conditions:
Must be the citizen of India.
Must be Subject to Nepal.
Must be Subject to Bhutan.
Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 to be settled permanently in India.
A person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Education Qualification:
The candidate needs to complete the ITI (approved by NCVT/SCVT) in any specific trade to apply for this post.
Candidates who have completed diploma in engineering are also eligible and should have completed minimum 10th standard from recognized board.

1) General Science: (12th standard level) – In the Railway syllabus there will be General Science Section which comprises of following topics -Physics, Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Biology etc.
2) Arithmetic or Elementary Mathematics:Simplification based on four elementary operations addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Fraction, Decimal, “BODMAS” rule, LCM-HCF, Percentage, profit and loss, Time and work, Time and distance, Ratio and proportion, Square and square, root Cube and cube root, Area and volume of geometrical figures, Average, Partnership, Calendar, Clocks etc. To Some extent Algebra Set theory, Trigonometry, Functions relations, Statistics make through in the question paper.

3) Reasoning Ability (or) General Intelligence: Most of the questions come from verbal sections but in some cases R.R.B tends to ask questions from both verbal and non-verbal sections.The topics like letter/ number/ symbol series, Analogy Classifications (or add man out), Coding-decoding, Distance and direction test, Blood relations, Puzzle test, Ranking & arrangement, logical diagram, Alphabet test, Finding missing Number, Arithmetical Reasoning, Mathematical operations and non-verbal topics like Reasoning Pertaining to analogy Series classification will be asked.
4) General Awareness: Test paper include questions relating to history, World, Indian geography, Indian polity, Health and Physiology, Static G.K., Current event of national and International importance, computer and information technology, Current Events, Economy, Sports, Awards etc.
5) Technical Subjects:Mechanical Engineering,Electrical Engineering ,Basic Electronic Energy
6) Electrical Engineering: Questions may come from the following topics:Atomic structure, Voltage, Current Resistance and their units, Ohms law, Specific resistance, Capacitors, Series and parallel connections, Magnetism, Principles of motors, Transformers, Generators, R.L.C., Gravity, Measuring Instruments etc.
7) Electronics: Questions relate to deals conduction of electricity through to gases (or) vacuum, electrons, Conductors Semiconductors and Insulator etc.

The RRB ALP Exam is going to be conducted in 4 stages as given below –
1. First Stage CBT
2. Second Stage CBT
3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (For ALP Only)
4. Documents Verification

1.The first stage Computer Based Test (CBT) is of screening nature. The exam pattern is as follows

Number of Questions: 75 Questions.
Duration: 60 minutes.
2.The second stage Computer Based Test (CBT) is divided into two parts as given below
Subjects:(i)Maths (ii)General Science (iii)Basic Science & Engineering (iv)General Awareness on Current Affairs
Number of Questions: 100 Questions.
Duration: 90 minutes.

There shall be negative marking for Incorrect answers in First and Second Stage CBT Exam.For each incorrect answer 1/3rd of the total marks would be deducted for each attempted question.Computer Based Aptitude Test shall be conducted only for candidates applying for ALP Exam.There is no negative marking in Computer Based Aptitude Test.If you have applied for ALP Post and qualified both the stages of CBT, you would be called for Document Verification after qualifying the Fourth Stage Computer Based Aptitude Test.
If you are applying for the Technician Post, then you will be directly called for Document Verification after First and Second Stage CBT.
3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (Third Stage only for ALP Posts)
The candidates need to secure at least 42 marks in each of the test to qualify the exam. There is no relaxation permissible in this stage and is applicable for all qualified candidates.
4. Document Verification (Fourth Stage):Document Verification is the final stage in ALP/Technician Exam and is applicable for all the candidates who qualify both the stages of CBT as well as CBAT Exam.
5. Final Selection:The final merit list would be depicted from the candidates qualifying in the Aptitude Test, with 70 % weightage is for marks obtained in Part – A of Second Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in Computer Based Aptitude Test.


Application Form

RRB ALP 2019 Application forms will be available on the official website of the respective RRBs. Candidates can fill and submit their application forms through the online mode. Only those aspirants who apply for the test by paying the requisite application fees can appear for the test conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board.
RRB ALP 2019 application process comprises 3 main steps- Online Registration, Filling of Application Form & Uploading documents, and Payment of Fees.
Pre-requisites for filling RRB ALP 2019 Application Form-
i.12 digit Aadhaar Card Number is mandatory
ii.Valid mobile number and email ID
iii.Scanned images of photograph and signature of candidate
iv.Scanned copy of Caste certificate for SC/ ST category
v.Details of online payment mod
vi.Candidates can fill the RRB ALP 2019 form by utilizing the guidelines that are mentioned below:

Step 1: Registration & Filling of Application form
Go to the official regional website and click on the link ‘Apply Now’ to begin the online registration process.
Aspirants will have to provide their name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID and category details. Click on ‘Submit’.
The Email ID and Mobile Number given by candidates will be validated for activating the RRB Online Registration.
After successful validation, a RRB Registration Number will be assigned to each individual which should be carefully noted down
Step 2: Filling of Application Form
Next, participants will have to fill the application form.
They should fill up personal details, qualification details, preferences for post and scribe details. Applicants must also select the preferred language of exam.
Participants should then upload scanned images of their recent passport sized photograph, signature and caste certificate with the specifications mentioned below-

Step 3: Payment of Application Fees
i.Each applicant must pay the non-refundable application fees of RRB ALP 2019.
ii.They can pay the fees through the online mode by using Debit/ Credit card, or Net Banking.
iii.Fees can also be paid by offline mode using SBI e-Challan and Post Office Challan.
iv.Candidates must enter the necessary payment details on the bank page and save a copy of the receipt of transaction.
v.After all the above steps are completed, participants must carefully go through the application form and rectify any mistakes made while filling it.
vi.A confirmation page of RRB ALP 2019 application will be generated which should be printed out for future correspondence.

RRB ALP 2019 Application Form Correction
Candidates who have made any mistake while filling RRB ALP 2019 Application Form can rectify it. They must go to the official regional RRB website and click on the ‘Modify Application’ link on the registration panel. Applicants must first pay a fee of INR 100 regardless of their category to edit an application. They will have 2 options for correction in RRB online applications which are given below:
Modify application in the same RRB: Individuals can rectify their applications within the RRB to which they have already applied.
Modify application and apply to different RRB: They can also opt to apply to a different RRB altogether.
After paying the fee, participants can choose the RRB to which they wish to re-apply. The application form they have already submitted will be cancelled and a new Registration Number for the new RRB will be generated. Candidates can login again with the new Registration number and complete the further process.
The following fields cannot be changed: Name of the applicant, Father’s Name, Date of Birth, email ID, and Mobile number.
This is the only opportunity to edit the form so aspirants are advised to be very cautious while modifying the application form.

Admit Card

Railway Recruitment Board has released the recruitment notification for 64000+ Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician posts. The vacancies have been released region wise for 21 RRBs. Candidates can fill the RRB Online Application Form and get themselves registered for the exam.
Here are a few steps the candidates need to follow to download the RRB ALP Admit Card 2018.
1.Firstly, visit the official website and Check for RRB Hall Ticket Download 2018 Notification.
2.Go through the Download RRB ALP Admit Card link.
3.Enter the Register ID & Password.
4.Download the admit card.
5.Finally, take a hall ticket print out for future use.
