F: Tell us something about yourself
Told (mentioned that my family is in aviation hence I get to travel a lot)
F: which is the most recent place you travelled to
(Bangkok)

F1: So if we collect less tax how will the economy benefit from it?
(Said that people will have more money with them for investment should have said more spending power*)
F1: I was travelling in Uber yesterday and the cab driver said that he will cancel the booking for the app and i should pay him with cash. If you were in the top management at Uber what would you do?
(I will talk to him and try to understand why he is doing so)
F1: you know why he is doing so. He wants to keep all the money in his pocket and he has a family to feed.
(Ma’am in that case I would have to lay him off as he has acquired a customer through my website/app so what he is doing is not ethically correct could have mentioned giving a warning)
F1: how can the unorganised businesses be monitored. They earn in crores but don’t pay taxes.
(Ma’am in my knowledge there is no such policy as of now but with the digitalization and increase in UPI payments where a part of their earnings go directly into the back, that part can be monitored)
F1: what do you do in your free time
(Told, no cross questions)
All this while M1 was going through my documents
M1: Tell me 5 of your favourite subjects
(Told, he picked macro economics i was so happy as that was the only subject i was comfortable with)
The entire conversation with M1 was a to and fro conversation about the Indian economy I cannot remember it in sequence so I’ll put some points of the conversation.
• Spoke about the growth of the economy, how it is one of the fastest growing economies and how all economies are starting to get on par with the pre COVID level but India is on its path to surpass it.
• Mentioned that this growth is because of the large amount of domestic consumption.
• M1 said that as you mentioned domestic consumption there are three types of economies consumption based, export based, investment based. Classify. I gave an example of china in export based and explained it. I explained investment based but couldn’t think of an example.
•M1 asked if US is consumption based or investment based. I said I didn’t mention US as i wasn’t sure if it is investment based or consumption based but if i had to take a guess i would say it is investment based (it is consumption based)
• I mentioned how the FII are pulling out their money from the India market and putting it in the Chinese market as Indian market is overvalued at its P/E ratio touched almost 18-20% as compared to China which has a P/E ratio of just 10%
Some more cross questioning was done on the Indian economy
M1: That’s it from our side, thank you.
F1: You can take a chocolate from the Bowl.
The interview went on for 18-20 minutes.
IIM Shillong Interview Experience 17
5/02/23
Background – Bcom fresher.
GD : same as the chocolate case study mentioned above.
PI : 2 panelists : 1M 1F
M was PhD marketing and F was PhD HR (I think)
First F started with tell me about yourself.
In the answer I mentioned something about completing a course on blockchain.
So she asked me quite a few questions on blockchain, smart contracts, cryptocurrencies, etc.
This was pretty easy.
Then M started asking about acads and tbh he didn’t really know much about cost and works accounting (my specialisation) so he just googled some random stuff to ask. Couldn’t answer much .
He also asked about economics. Gave me a list – GDP , GDP per capita, GNP, GNP per capita, PPP, HDI, Happiness index.
From above list which is the best indicator of the state of an economy?
I wasn’t sure so went with GDP. So he asked is it possible that a country has high GDP and at the same time is in a bad economic condition? I said yes and mentioned a few points like inflation and disproportionate distribution of income.
He asked me what if country has high GDP and high population at the same time? GDP per capita would be low.
So now what do you think is the best indicator of Economy? Said GDP again but not really sure.
Asked me what does the equation MR=MC indicate – Profit maximization strategy or sales maximization strategy?
And some other questions on acads I don’t really remember right now.
M grilled everybody a lot on acads. So make sure you know acads well even if you have a lot of work experience..
