MAT Exam

MAT is a national-level management entrance examination. Since 1988, Business Schools (B-Schools) have used the Management Aptitude Test (MAT), a standardised exam, to assess applicants for admission to MBA and related degrees. In 2003, the Government of India's Ministry of HRD recognised the MAT as a national-level exam. Based on the Score Cards provided to the candidates, any B-School, whether domestic or foreign, may use the MAT Score as an admission input. Your entry ticket to more than 600 B-Schools throughout India will continue to be the largest test of its kind in the country, the MAT.

2023 Exam Analysis

MAT is conducted 4 times in a year. MAT exam paper is divided into 5 sections, each comprising 40 questions. The difficulty level of the exam is usually easy to moderate.

Test-takers can have a look at the MAT February exam analysis to get an idea about the exam pattern.

Language Comprehension:This section predominantly featured questions on Reading Comprehension. There were four passages of about 400-450 words with each passage comprising five questions. The questions in all the passages were mostly of the same pattern. There were three questions each on Antonyms, Fill in the Blanks and Odd Word Out. As usual, in Antonyms and Odd Word Out questions, the words were given in jumbled form that had to be first rearranged before arriving at the correct antonym or the odd word. This made these questions a little time consuming. There were four questions each on Para Jumbles and Summary. In Grammar, there were three questions on Sentence Correction. Overall, the section was of easy to moderate level of difficulty.

Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
This section covered almost all the topics of Reasoning like – Linear/Circular Arrangements, Number/Alphabetical series, Blood Relations, Puzzles etc. Verbal Reasoning comprised questions on Analogy, Cause and Effect, Assertion and Reason and Statement Conclusion. The overall difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate.

Mathematical Skills
This section included questions from Arithmetic, Number System, Geometry and Mensuration, Probability and Set Theory with maximum number of questions appearing from Arithmetic. Some questions in this section were ambiguous and left many students confused . Overall, it was of Easy to moderate level of difficulty.

Data Analysis and Sufficiency
This section consisted of 30 questions from Data Interpretation based of Line Graphs, Bar Graphs and Pie Charts. Remaining 10 questions were from Data Sufficiency, Data Comparison etc. I feel this section was relatively difficult compared to the other sections.

Indian and Global Environment
The section was dominated by questions from Current Affairs. The level of the questions was easy to moderate. The questions were from areas like Business Awareness, Politics, Sports, Books and Authors etc.
Overall, the paper was moderately difficult and an attempt of 130 to 140 questions can be considered a good attempt.
