IIM Mumbai, erstwhile known as NITIE was established by the Government of India in 1963 with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programmed (UNDP) and the International Labor Organization (ILO). After passing of IIM Act Amendment bill 2023 by Parliament on August 8, 2023, and getting President’s nod on August 11, 2023, NITIE was given status of IIM Mumbai, the 21st IIM in India and the first full-fledged IIM in Mumbai which will award MBA degree instead of Post Graduate Diploma.

Courses & Fees 2026
After its renaming to IIM Mumbai, the institute has introduced MBA programs starting from the 2024-25 academic session, along with key updates to its eligibility criteria. IIM Mumbai now accepts a bachelor's degree in any discipline, replacing the previous mandatory requirement for an engineering degree. The institute has also transitioned from offering PGDM programs to providing three 2-year full-time MBA programs. Previously, NITIE awarded AICTE-approved diplomas like PGDIM and PGDIE, but now, as an IIM recognized by the Act of Parliament, it is authorized to confer MBA degrees, similar to other IIMs. The MBA programs offered by IIM Mumbai are as follows:

Admission Process 2026
The application process for admission to IIM Mumbai begins with the start of the CAT registration process. Candidates must apply for CAT before the deadline. For the 2025 admissions, IIM Mumbai may not require a separate application for the MBA program.
The admission and selection process for the MBA at IIM Mumbai follows a two-step approach. In the first step, candidates with a valid CAT score who have met the eligibility criteria and applied for the program are shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI) round, which is held in various cities.
After the PI round, IIM Mumbai assigns weightages to several factors and makes admission offers to successful candidates. The final selection is based on a variety of factors, including the CAT performance, PI performance, academic record, diversity, and work experience, among others.
