IIT Roorkee was established in 1847 as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. It is the oldest engineering institution in the country and was later renamed the University of Roorkee. In 2001, it was converted into an Indian Institute of Technology and came to be known as IIT Roorkee.

The Department of Management Studies (DOMS) at IIT Roorkee offers several popular programs, including:

1. MBA (Master of Business Administration) - A flagship two-year, full-time program focusing on diverse management specializations such as Marketing, Finance, Operations, Human Resources, and Information Technology.
2. Ph.D. in Management - A research-oriented doctoral program designed for students aiming to pursue advanced studies and research in various fields of management.
3. Executive Programs and Management Development Programs (MDP) - Short-term courses and training programs for working professionals, focusing on skill enhancement and industry-relevant topics.

The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) at IIT Roorkee offers an MBA program with a total fee of approximately INR 9.67 lakh for the full course. The Executive MBA program, designed for working professionals, costs INR 11 lakh and can be completed in two years or extended up to five years. Additionally, the Ph.D. programs in management fields like Finance, Marketing, and HR have fees around INR 7,500 per year.

The MBA program at IIT Roorkee is a two-year residential course structured into eight terms. The first year focuses on core management concepts, while the second year offers specialized knowledge and skill development.

3. Admission Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

(i) General Eligibility

• A graduate or professional qualification recognized by the UGC in any discipline.

• Minimum 60% marks (or 55% for SC/ST/PwD).

• A valid CAT 2024 score is mandatory.

• Final-year students can apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria before the deadline.

(ii) IIT Graduate Exemption

• IIT graduates (admitted through IIT-JEE) with a CGPA of 7.0 or above (on a 10-point scale) are exempted from CAT 2024.

• Average Package: INR 18.30 LPA
• Median Package: INR 18.50 LPA
• Top Recruiters: Over 70 companies, including PSUs, government sector organizations, and private firms across domains like General Management, Finance, Marketing, IT & Analytics.

The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) at IIT Roorkee offers MBA admissions based on CAT scores. For 2025, applicants must present a valid CAT 2025 score, meeting both overall and sectional percentile requirements. While the cutoff for 2025 is yet to be released, the 2022 cutoff required a 95 overall percentile for general category applicants in the All-India quota, and a 50 sectional score. The 2025 cutoff is expected to be similar, with varying requirements for different categories.

IIT Roorkee offers the Golden Girl Scheme to support and encourage female candidates in the MBA program. Under this scheme, first-rank (Gold Medalist) female candidates from an IIT or an institute ranked within the Top 50 in the latest NIRF rankings (overall category) are eligible for a relaxation from the requirement of qualifying CAT 2024. However, they must still meet all other minimum eligibility qualifications (MEQs) as per institute policies. This scheme provides supernumerary seats, ensuring additional opportunities beyond the regular intake. Final-year students appearing for their qualifying exam are not eligible. Additionally, fee relaxations and scholarships for SC/ST/PwD candidates may be available as per Government of India norms.
