Formerly known as K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research (SIMSR), the college offers MBA and MCA courses to students. KJ Somaiya offers PG courses to students across Sports Management, Healthcare Management, and various other streams. The Institute has launched programmes such as Parivartan which works on Nurturing Potential and Student Progression Index. 

  • The XAT registration 2025 for the MBA/PGDM courses is open and the last date is Nov 30, 2024. Candidates can visit and register themselves on the official website. Further, the XAT 2025 exam will be conducted on Jan 5, 2025.

  • The CAT 2024 registration process has closed now for admission to the MBA course. The CAT 2024 exam is scheduled to be held on Nov 24, 2024.

  • NMAT 2024 registration window is open for admission to MBA/PGDM courses for the academic session 2025-27. Candidates seeking admission can apply online by Oct 10, 2024. Further, NMAT 2024 exam window will be scheduled from Nov 5 to Dec 20, 2024.

The selection process will follow the below-mentioned procedure:

  • Submission of the Application:The Application window for Somaiya Scholarship is open from the first week of July to the first week of September every year.
  • Screening:Applications are sorted and ranked based on the scholarship criteria’s

    1. Applicants found eligible after the screening, will go through an interview round
    2. Scrutiny /verification of documents will be done as per the requirements
  • Award of Financial Aid:
    1. Awards decisions are made based on the availability of the funds and the number of applicants.

Are there any campus restrictions?+
Yes. Based on the values of the Somaiya Trust, the campus is totally vegetarian/non-smoking/non- alcoholic. Keeping in view the food and personal habits, the NRI/OCI/FN students can stay outside the campus. If required, the Institute can assist these students to get appropriate paying guest accommodation. However, all students are encouraged to stay on campus to take full advantage of facilities offered on campus and to facilitate group learning and project work.
What are the Infrastructure facilities at the Institute?+
Infrastructure facilities are as follows: Institute is spread across two spacious, well-furnished buildings covering an area of 150,000 sq. feet. It consist of AC Classrooms, Multiple Seminar Halls, Conference Rooms, Student Discussion Rooms and Wi-Fi enabled Campus.Institute provides separate hostels for girls and boys, namely, MAITREYI and SANDIPANI respectively. Hostel is well equipped with facilities like internet, Laundromat, student mess, activity room and well-equipped gym.

What is the number of seats in MBA?+
MBA Programme has 600 approved seats plus supernumerary seats for FN/OCI/ CIWGC. The seats for NRI students are included within the 600 seats. It is two years full-time MBA Programme of K J Somaiya Institute of Management under Somaiya Vidyavihar University.
What is the structure for the programmes?+
The programme will span over 2 years (4 Semesters) with a holistic course curriculum in which the first year will cover Foundation courses in management. In the second year, the students can specialize in one major and one minor area of their choice.
When does a student choose his/her specialization?+
The students will choose their major & minor specialization in the second semester of their programme. The major & minor will be applicable for the second year. The Student has to choose 1 Major and 1 Minor. Credit requirements for the Major are 1100 Credit requirements for the Minor are 400

Is it a residential course?+
It is not a residential programme. The university has a separate hostel facility for boys and girls. Students have the option to be day scholars as well.
Is the placement assistance provided?+
Yes, placement assistance is provided to the students. A full-fledged Career Management and corporate relations team helps in the placement of the students. Also, there exists a Placement Committee of students for driving the placement process. K J Somaiya Institute of management’s placement record has been excellent since its inception and students find placements in top organizations.
Does the Programme have an Internship?+
Yes. At the end of First year students will have to undergo live internship project also called as summer project for 2 months. The Career Management and corporate relations Department facilitates the process. The credit is awarded to all the students who successfully complete the internship.
What is the difference between Major and Minor Specializations?+
For the major area of specialization students can choose one of the 5 areas for their MBA program. The credits for the major area are primarily concentrated in the 3rd and 4th semesters respectively. Minor area of specialization can be the same as major to be super specialized or it could be another from a list of 8 areas offered in which the students can opt to get complementary skills. The minor is in 3rd and 4th semester. Each student can choose a minor to supplement and complement their knowledge and skills as per their preferences. It is a freedom of possibility to be distinct.
Is there a provision to change my specialization?+
Once the student has selected the major after the second semester, the student can change it only once i.e. before 15 days of the commencement of the third semester classes, similarly for the minor 15 days before the commencement of the third semester.
How is Minor specialization (HR) different from Major specialization (HR)?+
The major HR specialization focuses on HR functions, process and roles in the organizations to pursue a career in HR, it is HR as a Staff function. The HR minor focuses on areas which are important to all managers including HR specialization managers as it focuses on the challenges of dealing with Human resource which are an integral part of managerial role irrespective of the specialization, it is HR as a Line function.
Can the Institute change the Admission policy and process?+
Yes. The changes may occur subject to any changes in the guidelines by regulatory authorities. If and when changes are made, they will be notified on the website. The Institute reserves all the rights to make the mandatory changes.
What is Stage 1 of Admission Process?+
Stage 1 includes appearing for either of the qualifying examination (examination (CAT 2024/ XAT 2025/GMAT*/NMAT*/CMAT 2025)) and then applying to the Institute by filling up the online form. Candidates applying through NMAT & GMAT are required to select K J Somaiya Institute of Management as one of the institutes for sending their scores in NMAT & GMAT application forms respectively.GMAT scores valid from 1st January 2022 onwards to 20th January 2025, the aspirant must input the score at the time of filling the form or by the last date of form submission.For NMAT, the scores of only the first attempt of the students will be considered.
Using one Application form can a candidate apply for all the MBA programmes?+
The applicant can apply for MBA & MBA-HCM using 1 application form. The form fees for MBA & MBA-HCM will be ₹ 3,000/- + (Applicable Transaction Charges). For MBA-SM the aspirant must fill separate form. The form fees for MBA-SM will be ₹ 1,000/- + (Applicable Transaction Charges).
How can the payment be made for Application form?+
The payment can be made either through Debit Card/Credit Card/UPI/Net Banking/Wallet etc). The guided walk through is available while filling the Application Form.
Which programmes offer profile-based selection?+
MBA in Healthcare Management & MBA in Sports Management are the two profile based programmes offered by the institute
Is the admission procedure for MBA-HCM different from MBA?+
For the profile-based programmes the aspirant needs to appear for any one of the qualifying entrance exams (i.e. either of CAT 2024/ XAT 2025/GMAT*/NMAT*/CMAT 2025). The aspirants will then be shortlisted basis their profiles and entrance scores. The GD-PI & WAT process will be conducted Online. The result declaration will be based on the evaluation of profile and performance in GD-PI as well as the statement of purpose written by the aspirant. The aspirants will then be offered the choice of programme based on their result, preference, and availability of seats for MBA-HCM only. Candidates applying through NMAT & GMAT are required to select K J Somaiya Institute of Management as one of the institutes for sending their scores in NMAT & GMAT application forms/ portals respectively.GMAT scores valid from 1st January 2022 onwards to 20th January 2025, the aspirant must input the score at the time of filling the form or by the last date of form submission.For NMAT, the scores of only the first attempt of the students will be considered.

What is the Somaiya Scholarship?+
The Somaiya Scholarship is a financial aid opportunity offered to students of Somaiya Vidyavihar (SVV) and Somaiya Ayurvihar (SAV) who are pursuing various courses from Diploma to Degree. It is designed to assist hardworking, meritorious students with financial needs by providing tuition assistance.
Who is eligible for the Somaiya Scholarship?+
The scholarship is available to all students of Somaiya Vidyavihar and Ayurvihar who meet the required criteria for academic merit and financial need.
When can I apply for the Somaiya Scholarship?+
The application window for the Somaiya Scholarship opens from the first week of July and closes in the first week of September every year.
How is the scholarship amount awarded?+
Scholarship funds are transferred to the respective institution against the student’s name. The award is applicable for the entire duration of the program. A copy of the award email can be submitted to the accounts office to collect the cheque.
Are there any scholarships provided to the students?+
There are limited scholarships available for economically backward students.
