The XAT exam (Xavier Aptitude Test) is a national-level MBA entrance test conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI for admission to its flagship MBA and PGDM programmes. Along with XLRI and other XAMI member institutes, more than 700+ B-schools in India accept XAT scores for admission to their management programmes.

The latest XAT exam pattern consists of around 95 questions divided into four key sections:
Verbal & Logical Ability
Decision Making
Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
General Knowledge

The Decision Making section is unique to XAT and plays a major role in shortlisting, which sets the exam apart from CAT, NMAT, SNAP, and other MBA entrance tests.

Overall, the XAT Exam remains one of India’s most important management entrance exams for aspirants targeting XLRI and other top B-schools.

Continuing with its tradition to encourage women’s education, XLRI has lowered the cut-off for women candidates as compared to men. “For increasing the diversity, the lower cut-off is assigned to the non-engineering candidates and the female candidates for both the BM & HRM programs. XLRI being a socially responsible institution, the underprivileged communities have also been assigned the lower cutoffs”, said Prof Vishwa Ballabh, XAT 2025 Convenor.

It is expected that XLRI will interview around 2500-3000 candidates for 2023-2025 admissions for various programs of both the campuses. The PGDM (GM) program interviews are reaching at a concluding stage. For the programs like IEV and Double Master’s Program, the cut off will be decided later in consultation with the program addressing specific needs of the programs.

XAT cut-off percentiles for XLRI admission are based on several factors. The three main determining factors are the number of candidates appearing for XAT that year, the difficulty level of the XAT question paper and the number of seats available. XLRI has been conducting XAT on behalf of XAMI to select the most suitable students for management education. Though one of the oldest competitive examinations in the country, XAT has always kept pace with the cutting-edge testing methodology. XAT’s multidimensional testing framework strives to assess the aptitude of candidates for business management education meaningfully. XAT has a multi-pronged examination structure and in-built fairness to evaluate candidates aspiring to be future business leade
